A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas - Movie Review

I will admit, I have not watched either of the previous Harold and Kumar movies so this was a brand new experience for me. These characters seem to have a penchant for finding trouble under any circumstance and the holidays are no exception. Featuring a screwball cast and a never ending supply of gags, will this movie fill your stocking with three dimensional holiday cheer or will it leave you feeling like Santa Claus had just been hit in the face with a shotgun blast?

After watching this movie, you will most like have experienced both of those sensations as the film makers take full advantage of 3D technology to enhance your viewing experience and Santa does actually experience a friendly fire mishap. This time around Harold and Kumar find themselves on the streets of Manhattan searching for the perfect replacement Christmas tree and once again cross paths with Neil Patrick Harris.

If you like your comedy fast paced, raunchy, and filled with drugs and alcohol then this is the movie for you. If you are looking for an Oscar caliber feature presentation filled with brilliant acting performances and a riveting screenplay then this might not be the sleigh ride you want to find yourself on.

John Cho and Kal Penn are very comfortable in the respective roles as Harold and Kumar although maybe a bit too much as at times they seem to barely pay attention to the scene they are in. That fact may also be part of the charm as it helps the audience to not take the story too seriously even in the few dramatic moments that are sprinkled in to help move the story along.

Full of slapstick comedy, drug fueled antics, a toddler with the munchies, and a bare bones attempt at telling a story, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas will not end up next to the likes of A Christmas Story on your must-watch holiday movie list although they do pay homage to it in their own special way. Even so, there will definitely be a cult following for this film the same as with the previous White Castle and Guantanamo Bay installments of the franchise.
