'New Year's Eve' follows several stories that overlap, cross paths, and intertwine all leading to that big moment in Times Square where we all celebrate the changing of the calendar to a new year. There are stories of hope, reflection, birth, and rebirth along with tales of redemption and reconciliation all played out by an impressive list of Hollywood stars.
It would be hard to even try to summarize what is going on in this movie as there are so many different characters and story lines that it would take quite some time to get it all down. The principle cast includes, but is not limited to, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Robert DeNiro, Jon Bon Jovi, Katherine Heigl, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hillary Swank, Halle Berry, and Jessica Biel.
Over the course of the movie, we see new romances, old flames looking to rekindle, babies about to be born, and family bonds strengthened by mortality and tested by youthful rebellion. All of this is laid out in a way that makes sense and doesn't ever get confusing or had to follow which is one of the things I expected given the sheer volume of characters to get to know.
'New Year's Eve' is by no means groundbreaking entertainment and you will not likely feel that you have witnessed anything revolutionary, but if you are just looking to be entertained by a simple but fun story and an ensemble cast that is hard not to like then you won't be disappointed.
