"Raiders of the Lost Ark" has been reformatted and remastered to the 70mm IMAX film standard and will be in theaters for a very limited time! This is great news for fans of Indiana Jones, fans of IMAX movies, fans of movies, and...well, basically fans of everything that is good about the universe. You may be asking yourself why I would make such a bold statement. Well, so was I and here's what I came up with as an answer.
I want to see this on an IMAX screen. The end.
Actually, there's more to it than that. For example, would you really want to miss out on the chance to see one of the greatest cinematic adventures ever put on screen in the biggest and best format possible?
Check out this article from hollywood.com (How IMAX Fits the Larger Than Life Fun of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark) that does a great job of telling you the same thing I just did but with a lot more words and stuff.
Seriously, its a great article!
Not only has the movie been reformatted to be shown in IMAX theaters, but every frame of the film has been up-converted to a never before seen quality that, and this is coming from Mr. Steven Spielberg himself, looks even better than the original 35mm prints of the movie.
Check out this article from slashfilm.com (Raiders of the Lost Ark; Is Steven Spielberg the Next Big IMAX Convert?) where Spielberg talks about the IMAX conversion and how blown away he was by the whole process. He even names which movie he might convert next!
If you know me at all or have been reading my blog, you know I've had some serious opinions about various movies being shown in IMAX theaters as well as so-called IMAX theaters that aren't really what they claim to be. If you are not familiar with this then please read my blog post on the subject (The Truth About the IMAX "Experience") and then come on back. Don't worry, I'll still be here to finish this article.
Actually there's not much left to talk about, but I do have one more link to another article that adds a little more information about the movie as well as another interesting quote from Mr. Spielberg. The good people of ScreenCrush.com even throw their own jab at the "Fake IMAX" theaters! (Exclusive: Raiders of the Lost Ark Getting an IMAX Re-Release)
Now that you know more than you ever wanted to know about the IMAX re-release of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", will you be going to see it? If so, make sure to stay away from the fake IMAX theaters which, for those of us here in the Seattle area, basically leaves you with just one option.
