For me, 2012 was the first full year of writing movie reviews and it was also a year where I was able to watch more movies than I ever have before. From midnight premiers at the Cinerama to film festival screenings in theaters all over Seattle, I took in as many as I possibly could and wrote a review for almost every single one.
Of course, there are always movies that stand out as exceptional experiences and acting performances that shine through as remarkable achievements and this is where you will find my list of the ones that stood out above all the others throughout the past year.
We all have our favorites for various reasons whether we are critics, casual fans, or genre followers and I doubt if any two people would share the exact same opinions across the board. If you have read my previous Best of the Year posts, you are well aware that my year end awards do not follow that of the big ones you see on TV.
What matters to me more than anything is the emotion you feel during the movie, immediately after the movie ends, and how long those feelings stick with you. Of course, acting, cinematography, direction, score, and all that stuff are important, but I am not going to dwell on the intricate details of each of them to decide whether I like a movie or not.
The reason the ten movies below have made this list is because each and every one of them provides a truly enjoyable experience in their own unique way. You will also find a list of ten more movies that I really liked as well as a few I really did not enjoy, and finally a list of actors and actresses that provided the most memorable performances.
Thank you for reading the reviews that I post on this website, I really appreciate the time you choose to spend with me and my thoughts.
