Of course you know about the big heavy hitting blockbusters coming out this year like Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, but there are many more movies coming out that could sneak up on you as they are released. To help stay you in the know, I have compiled a list of what I feel are the most underhyped (so far) releases of the year that you will absolutely want to see.
This is the true story of baseball legend and racial pioneer, Jackie Robinson. If you don't know who he is, then you really need to watch this movie when it comes out. 42 stars Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford and will be in theaters on April 12th.
A modern retelling of Shakespeare's classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words. The film was shot in only 12 days while director Joss Whedon was working on Marvel's The Avengers. In theaters nationwide on June 7th.
Pacific Rim, when its all said and done, could end up being the biggest movie of the year, but there hasn't been a whole lot of hype...so far. The good news is that this is a massive scale blockbuster featuring Gigantic robots fighting gigantic monster aliens and the director is none other than Guillermo Del Toro. The bad news is...actually, there isn't any bad news, Pacific Rim is going to be blow your geek mind.
Check it out in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D starting on July 12th.
It was recently reported how The Conjuring earned its hard R rating not due to excessively graphic violence or gratuitous nudity, but because it is just too freaking scary to give it any lesser of a rating. If you think you can handle it, you can check it out in theaters on July 19th.
If you've seen Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead then you will understand that The World's End is meant to be the final installment of director Edgar Wright's comedic trilogy of movies which he has created along with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. This promises to be quite the conclusion to a series of movies that don't exactly fit together, but definitely belong side by side. There is currently no trailer, but you will be able to see the movie in theaters on August 23rd.
