On Saturday, June 1st, the Seattle International Film Festival held its "Centerpiece Gala" at the Egyptian Theatre in Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle which featured a screening of Twenty Feet from Stardom. The event also included a Q&A session featuring director Morgan Neville and two of the film's subjects, singers Tata Vega and Merry Clayton.
If you are any type of music fan, Twenty Feet from Stardom is a documentary that you just have to see. The film, directed by Morgan Neville, focuses on the up down careers of the music industry's most prominent backup singers. By nature these very talented people are left out of the spotlight and often struggle to maintain a viable presence in the industry they are constantly giving every bit of their soul to.
Below, you will find pictures from our red carpet coverage featuring director Morgan Neville along with singers Tata Vega and Merry Clayton as well as a video clip of Ms. Clayton singing Leon Russell's "A Song for You" to an audience that was shell shocked by what a truly amazing voice this woman has. Ms. Vega also took a turn on stage and nearly brought the house down with her rendition of "It's a Man's World" but I was not able to get any video of her performance.
