The first trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, has been released and we get our first look at director Bryan Singer's take on one of the most popular comic book story lines of all time.
Between this little pile of mutant awesomeness and the release of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer, this has been a good week for looking into the future of comic book movies. The big debate will be whether they can live up to past performances although, from what I can tell, the future does look very bright indeed.
One thing that always scares me about time travel movies is how well the story follows the rules of jumping back and forth through time because everything can fall apart really quick if they are ignored or even tip toed around. There are very few films that have been able to pull it off without leaving you wondering why the heroes or villains didn't just go back a few minutes and fix whatever went wrong.
From the looks of the trailer, it seems as if Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is sent back in time to help Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart / James McAvoy) with some personal issues that eventually lead to a war between humans and mutants. Unfortunately, I have never read the comic book version of this story so I don't know what to look for but, from what I understand, the movie just take inspiration from the comics rather than translating it completely.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on May 23rd, 2014 and features an unprecedented roster of acting talent (Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, and Anna Paquin just to name a few) the likes of which has never been assembled before in any movie and features characters from both the original movies as well as the First Class prequel that showed how the team of mutants was first brought together. Bryan Singer returns to his directing duties for the franchise he originally launched into one of the biggest comic book blockbusters ever created.
