In an effort to get more reviews posted in a timely manner, I have created the "MiniView" which is a less comprehensive yet still informative version of my normal movie reviews.
A Million Ways to Die in the West is a major motion picture with a really long title. Seth MacFarlane stars in the movie which he also wrote and directed. You also get to see Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman, Giovanni Ribisi, Liam Neeson, and Amanda Seyfried doing and saying really funny things.
Apparently we were overdue for a good comedy western and MacFarlane delivers the good with a seemingly endless supply of gags and a very talented cast to deliver them all. While most of the movie was genuinely funny, it could have easily been about 15-20 minutes shorter. About two thirds of the way in, the movie begins to drag on horribly and barely recovers in time to cross the finish line without having done too much damage.
The one other fault, in my opinion, is the over reliance on bathroom humor for most of the laughs which isn't totally bad, but did we really need to see the sheep's penis front and center while it peed on one of the lead characters? Yeah, seriously. Outside of a few missteps this was a very entertaining movie that I genuinely enjoyed and would recommend it as a good diversion in between all the big blockbusters being dumped into theaters every week for the next few months.
