The Amazing Spider Man 2 picks up the adventures of Peter Parker roughly where the previous installment left off. It was directed by Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, and Sally Field.
I'm just going to tell you right now I did not like this movie. I knew going in that I wasn't going to like it and watching it did nothing to change that. The story is bordering on incoherent, the acting is laughable, and the special effects are on par with straight to video releases and video games. The changes made to Spider Man's history continue to baffle me as they make no sense at all. Sure, movies are allowed to take a fair amount of creative license when translating to the format, but what the writers have done here is just wrong. Speaking of the writers, there are seven different people credited with having a hand in creating the story which, to me, is a big red flag right off the bat.
After reading that first paragraph, you may be asking yourself why I'm so angry at this franchise. To understand where I'm coming from, please take a moment to read my review of The Amazing Spider Man.
All done? Welcome back. :)
All that being said, I still wanted to go into the movie giving it as much of a chance as my brain could possibly muster. What I received in response to that effort was a non stop barrage of frustration and bewilderment from the moment the movie started all the way to its very strange conclusion...the very last scene of which can actually be seen in the trailer for the movie. Yeah, seriously. Sony was so desperate to put butts in the seats, they literally took the very last moment of the film and put it into the marketing campaign.
There is so much wrong with this movie, I don't even know where to begin. Fortunately, io9, one of my favorite geek culture websites, recently posted an article that perfectly points out all of the nonsense way better than I ever could. I do have to warn you that the article is packed full of spoilers so, if you choose to read it, you are fully prepared and willing to have the entire story laid out in front of you. Personally, I have no problem offering this as I, in no way, shape, or form could ever endorse anyone going to see the movie anyway.

In conclusion: I did not like The Amazing Spider Man 2. Nothing about it was amazing except for how ridiculously stupid it was and nothing about it resembles the Spider Man I have always known and loved. Unfortunately, Sony will be allowed to make more. Excuse me while I go stare blankly at nothing in hopes of removing those painful two and a half hours from my brain.
Should you see it in 3D? No.
One, because they movie is horrible and two, because the 3D was added in as a post conversion. I saw it in 2D and didn't feel like the added dimension would have really added anything to it.
Should you see it in IMAX? No.
Pretty much the same reasons I gave for not seeing it in 3D.
