Dude Bro Party Massacre III, written and directed by the creative team and comedy troupe known as "5 Second Films", is an official selection of the 2015 Portland Film Festival. The movie stars Alec Owen, Patton Oswalt, Paul Prado, Brian Firenzi, Kelsey Gunn, Joey Scoma, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Jimmy Wong, Michael Rousselet, Maria Del Carmen, and Nina Hartley.
The Story:
A video tape is found containing the last remaining copy of the third and final installment of the Dude Bro Party Massacre film series and we, the members of the audience, are given the opportunity to view this rare piece of cinematic history. After two horrific killing sprees, the mysterious and deadly woman known as "Motherface" is back once again to wreak havoc on the Delta Bi Theta fraternity. Enter Brent Chorino (Owen), twin brother of one of the many dude bros who have been knocked off by this murderous villain, who is determined to solve the bloody mystery once and for all.
The Review:
What we have here is a slasher comedy that reaches for the bottom in an attempt to hit that sweet spot where cult classics go to live inside midnight screening houses for ever and ever. While there is a lot to enjoy here, especially if you are a fan of similar fare like the Scary Movie series or other low budget genre parodies, it doesn't quite reach that immortal status it was obviously shooting for. One of the main things I did like about the film is the seemingly endless supply of creative and innovative ways that were found to kill off the bros and believe me, there are a lot of bros to be killed. Outside of that, originality was not the goal here as the film makers throw in just about every cliche and overused trick they can think of in an effort to fill out the 91 minute run time and just enough of it works to keep you from losing interest.
The Verdict:
Dude Bro Party Massacre III is funny at times and not so great during others but, honestly, you really shouldn't be expecting much from this film anyway so just kick back, crack open a few beers, and enjoy the show. Did I enjoy it? Sure, why not. If you like your slasher comedies to be low on budget and high on body count then you should have a good time watching this film. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Patton Oswalt is in the movie which is pretty cool
