Tumbledown, co-written and directed by Sean Mewshaw, is an official selection of the Tacoma Film Festival. The film, which is a light hearted romantic comedy, stars Jason Sudeikis, Rebecca Hall, Dianna Agron, Blythe Danner, Griffin Dunne, Joe Manganiello, and Richard Masur.
The Story:
Rebecca Hall plays Hannah, the widow of a singer who passed away and left her with a ton of memories and emotions that she can't seem to let go of. Jason Sudeikis plays Andrew McConnell, a scholar who's specialty is studying dead rock stars and wants to write a book to honor them while making Hannah's husband the focus of the project. The two initially butt heads but soon realize they must work together to achieve their respective goals and they ultimately learn a lot about themselves and each other.
The Review:
I was very confused by this movie. Even though the movie poster shows the two leads kissing (unavoidable spoiler alert), I never felt like they would ever be a good match for each other. What makes matters worse is Hall and Sudeikis have little to no chemistry on screen together which petty much renders this film useless. I actually really liked Hall in this role as she is good in every role she takes on, it was just really hard to see Sudeikis take on this type of character. There are a ton of actors more suited to play Andrew and I'm not sure how he ended up with it. Swing and a miss by the casting director on that one.
Another key area where this story fails is how it builds up the deceased husband as this amazingly talented folk singer who made one brilliant album before he passed away. The music that represented this accomplishment was very uninspired and didn't do anything to make you believe in all the fuss about the guy's talents. Unfortunately, this film was disappointing in just about every way. There are a few funny moments here and there and Hall is solid as usual, but the rest of the movie feels real awkward and really doesn't make much sense.
There is no trailer available for this film at this time.
