Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension - Movie Review

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, directed by Gregory Plotkin, continues the story originally created by Oren Peli. The movie stars Chris J Murray, Brit Shaw, Ivy George, Dan Gill, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Chloe Csengery, Don Mcmanus, and Michael Krawic.

The Story:
"The Ghost Dimension, follows a new family, The Fleeges - father Ryan (Chris J. Murray), mother Emily (Brit Shaw) and their young daughter Leila (Ivy George) - Who move into a house and discover a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage. When they look through the camera's lens, they begin to see the paranormal activity happening around them - including the re-emergence of young Kristi and Katie." - Official Plot Summary

The Review:
Movie goers are definitely split when it comes to this franchise, you either love it or you think it's lame and repetitive. Personally, I find it to be rather entertaining with just enough scares to keep me interested in coming back and an overarching narrative that threads the entire franchise together. Sure, you can pick apart the acting, the story, and all that but why would you. Anyone who puts that much thought into these movies needs to reevaluate why they watch movies. The main gimmick in this film that separates it from the rest of the series is the use, in story, of a camera that can capture 3D images of the paranormal stuff that is happening in the house. This allows the film makers to show off new imagery and to take the audience farther into the spooky stuff than ever before and, for me, it works pretty well but is essentially a gimmick and doesn't add a ton to the story.

The Verdict:
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension is a solid entry into the franchise and, even though it has been billed as the final installment, it actually has me looking forward to seeing more. If you like this series, you will enjoy this one. If you don't like the series, this film will probably do nothing to change that. I did not see it in 3D so not able to comment on the added effect although keep in mind it is only on screen when the special camera is being used within the movie.
