The Secret Life of Pets - Movie Review

The Secret Life of Pets, a film created by Illumination Entertainment, reveals what all of our favorite furry friends get up to when we are away from home. The film, directed by Yarrow Cheney and Chris Renaud, features vocal performances by Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, and Dana Carvey.

The Review:
After seeing the trailer countless times leading up to this film's release, I wasn't real sure if I wanted to actually see it. I mean, it looked decent enough but nothing was really grabbing me, except for the head banging poodle, I guess. The animation has a pretty distinct style with an emphasis on making everything extra cute although I felt like they weren't really bringing anything new to the table, especially after the wonder and amazement that was Zootopia which came out earlier this year. Still, visuals were solid and the story was upbeat enough to keep the audience I was with entertained throughout.

The Verdict:
The Secret Life of Pets is a fun movie that kids will definitely enjoy, teenagers will love the cuteness of it all as well as the humor, and it's a movie parents can comfortably watch together with their kids. All in all, this is a solid effort that entertains although it falls short when compared to recent similar efforts within the world of animated movies.
