2016 Recap - The Animated Films

2016 was dominated once again by Disney as they had two films from Walt Disney Animation and one from Pixar Studios release with a ton of critical acclaim. Out of all the animated films I saw, two stood out as being the clear front runners and it went down to the wire of creating this post to decide which one would be listed as this year's favorite animated film.

Finding Dory: What I really like about the film is how it feels very familiar yet doesn't come across as a carbon copy or rehashing of the same formula that worked so well the first time.

Kubo and the Two Strings: Great story, beautiful animation, high flying action, genuine comedy, and just enough tugging at the heartstrings to keep you fully invested.

Moana: The creative team does a great job of introducing all the characters, letting you know what the problem is, and then just digging into the action.

The Secret Life of Pets: A solid effort that entertains although it falls short when compared to recent similar efforts within the world of animated movies.

Seoul Station: The film overall is a solid entry into what could be categorized as animated horror although it doesn't really bring anything new or innovative to the table.

Sing: Kids will like the story and the humor making this a safe bet for a family night out at the movies.

Zootopia: A movie with a message that delivers on all fronts, takes no prisoners, and leaves you happily singing your way out of the theater. All I can say is go see this movie as soon as you can and just enjoy the heck out of it.
