2016 Recap - The Korean Films

During the summer of this year, I discovered that my local AMC theater had an ongoing program of Korean film screenings which gave me a great opportunity to see some really great stuff I never would have otherwise had a chance to watch. Read below for a list of all of my Korean film reviews including my 2016 TwoOhSix favorite!

Asura: The City of Madness (아수라): It's a slow burn that takes its time building to an all out, blood soaked climax filled with violence and betrayal around every corner.

The Handmaiden (아가씨): A good film that is worth checking out, just be prepared for confusion, bewilderment, and a really long path to the finish line.

Luck-Key (럭키): One of the funniest and most delightfully entertaining movies of the year.

Operation Chromite (인천상륙작전): Director John H. Lee swings for the fences with this effort and delivers a satisfying story that doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the tragedy, triumph, and realism of war.

Seoul Station (서울역): A solid entry into what could be categorized as animated horror although it doesn't really bring anything new or innovative to the table.

The Tunnel (터널): A fun, entertaining, and emotionally charged film filled with social commentary and a powerful message about the human spirit and our will to survive against incredible odds.

Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned (가려진 시간): The story left me wandering and wondering when it was going to end, my friend was checking the time, and a nearby audience member was totally out and snoring away peacefully.

Train to Busan (부산행): From start to finish, this film is thoroughly entertaining and filled with some really great action sequences and fight scenes that are above and beyond what I was expecting.
