Terror 5 (SIFF 2017) - Movie Review

The Movie: Terror 5

The Director: Sebastian Rotstein and Federico Rotstein

The Cast: Rafael Ferro, Jorge Prado, Gastón Cocchiarale, Walter Cornás, Lu Grasso, Julián Larquier, Agustín Rittano

The Story: Five gruesome, interwoven tales based on Argentinian urban legends.

The Review:
This type of film can often be a risk/reward situation when sitting down to watch. Sometimes you end up with a memorably chaotic gem and other times you end up with a film that leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, Terror 5 falls into the latter category as the directors' attempts at weaving together five loosely related stories ends up being kind of a jumbled mess. As the credits rolled, my friend and I agreed on this and I told her the best way I could describe it would be if Rodriguez and Tarantino threw together a Grindhouse style film, looked at it, realized what they had done, and then deleted the file.

One of the more entertaining aspects of watching the movie was the unintentionally comical subtitles which had tons of spelling errors, slightly abstract translations, and (my favorite) the need to change the name Juan to John.

The Verdict
Terror 5 is a solid effort that looks great and has some entertaining performances, but doesn't deliver on the promise of being the type of hardcore, over the top roller coaster you are hoping for.

Terror 5 is an official selection of the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival.
