Ingrid Goes West (SIFF 2017) - Capsule Review

The Movie: Ingrid Goes West

The Director: Matt Spicer

The Cast: Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell, Billy Magnussen

The Story: Following the death of her mother and a series of self-inflicted setbacks, Ingrid Thorburn escapes a humdrum existence by moving out West to befriend her Instagram obsession and LA socialite Taylor Sloane.

The Review:
There's a good idea somewhere in this movie, but it unfortunately gets lost in showing us that, when it comes to social media, we're all a bunch of selfish and narcissistic ass holes with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Aubrey Plaza gives everything you hope she might in a role like this and she is hilariously entertaining, at least up until director Matt Spicer swings and misses while trying to wrap things up in the messy and predictable third act.

Ingrid Goes West is an official selection of the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival.
