Geostorm - Movie Review

The Movie: Geostorm

The Director: Dean Devlin

The Cast: Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Daniel Wu, Eugenio Derbez, Amr Waked, Adepero Oduye, Andy Garcia, Ed Harris, Zazie Beets

The Story: Disaster threatens the planet after weather controlling satellites are compromised.

The Review:
The global disaster genre has seen its fair share of smash hits although there have also been plenty of colossal duds. Geostorm does everything it can to be as unoriginal and unemotional as possible whule also throwing all logic and reality straight out the window. A self destruct sequence on the international space station that goes off in stages over a two hour period? Sure, why not. Tallest building in the world get hit by a tsunami and just sort of leans into the building next to it while remaining fully intact? Seems legit. I'm not even going to go into detail on how awful the acting is or how silly the story is so let's just move on to my verdict for this movie.

The Verdict:
Geostorm is an incoherent mess. It brings together all the worst attributes of movies like Armageddon and 2012 while giving the middle finger to more respectable fare like Gravity and The Martian. You know how when you're computer freezes up and you feel like the world is coming to an end so you hit control-alt-delete to restart your computer which saves the day? That is exactly what Geostorm is. Literally.

All of that being said, I really enjoyed watching and laughing at this movie.

On a side note. Zazie Beetz is amazing.
