The Review:
The words "Inspired by True Events" gives this movie a lot more weight than it might have had without them. Yes, the movie is based on stories from real men who have fought for our country and come back to nothing but all kinds of physical and emotional problems, but it is also representative of
thousands more just like them and that's the message we need to take away from the movie. There is a real problem in how veterans are cared for and there is a huge gap in giving them opportunities to succeed one the government is done using them.
The story is dramatic, although a little slow and disjointed, and the acting is pretty fantastic. To be more specific, there are moments in this film where the actors are absolutely brilliant and these are usually the moments of authentic communication or heartbreaking pain. After several strong performances (Only the Brave, Whiplash), Miles Teller is proving to be one of the better young actors working today. Meanwhile, Haley Bennett has burst on to the scene with captivating work on several recent projects including The Magnificent Seven and The Girl on the Train.
The Verdict:
Thank You for Your Service does what it intends to do in shedding light on the struggles of being a veteran under a system set up to use and discard its resources. The real impact shines through in the outstanding performances from the cast members and overall, it is a very eye opening and powerful experience.
