The Review:
This movie has been hyped as an intense action vehicle for Jackie Chan. After watching it, I have decided that it is actually a European political thriller starring Pierce Brosnan that has an odd subplot featuring Jackie Chan. Brosnan is actually quite good in his role as Irish deputy minister Liam Hennessy, a man whose past with the IRA puts his credibility into question as an Irish terrorist cell begins setting off bombs in London. As fat as Chan is concerned, his character's arc is equal parts Taken and First Blood, the original Rambo movie. He does a lot of posturing and threatening, but the actual fighting is held to a minimum in favor of developing the political thriller angle of the story.
The Verdict:
The Foreigner is a very entertaining movie, just don't expect as much Jackie Chan ass kicking as the hype machine would lead you to believe. Pierce Brosnan is about as good as he's ever been and Jackie Chan gets to show off some dramatic acting skills to go along with his typically high flying fight sequences.
