The Review:
Steven Spielberg directing Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. Do I really need to say anything else?
Okay, I'll say something else.
This movie deserves every bit of positive attention that it's going to get. I'll be honest with you, the subject matter isn't something I was dying to know about, at least any more than I already did but Spielberg puts it on screen in a way that is extremely engaging and suspenseful, you just can't help but pay attention to every moment. Throw in the fact that you have two of the greatest actors of all time in the lead roles and this movie is hard to resist.
I suppose that's what really makes this movie so great is watching the cast do their thing. Sure, Spielberg is really good at what he does and all the technical stuff is great, but watching these people do their thing is quite the treat. You know Streep and Hanks are going to be in top form but we also get to see some really good work from the supporting cast and especially from Alison Brie, Bradley Whitford, and Bruce Greenwood.
The Verdict:
The Post is a headline grabbing movie that shines a spotlight on one of the biggest news stories in American politics. For Spielberg, this is one of the better movies he has made in recent years and, for Hanks and Streep, this should be considered a milestone in each of their illustrious careers.
