The Review:
One of the most entertaining things about this movie is saying the title out loud. Seriously, take a moment to say it and say it loud. It's really fun, right?! Speaking of fun, this movie is filled with so much fun you won't know what to do with yourself and there's so much going on your head might just explode from taking it all in. Visually, the movie has a very unique style and feel to it yet everything seems so familiar, it's like one of those cartoons you grew up watching on Saturday mornings only 1000 times better and more bad ass.

The unlikely hero origin story is pretty simple and works well as a foundation for all the craziness that is packed into the 90 minute run time. From beginning to end, there is so much going on and so much to take in. Directors Shôjirô Nishimi and Guillaume Renard fill their story with a ton of social and political commentary to the point where each scene has multiple layers of messaging yet it all fits perfectly into the recklessly entertaining attitude that makes the movie so much fun to watch.

The Verdict:
Mutafukaz is the type of movie that smacks you in the face and leaves you begging for more. It draws inspiration from so many styles and genres and gets the best out of every one of them. If this movie is able to find a wide audience, it could become an iconic and timeless entry into the world of animated features.

Mutafukaz is an official selection of the 2018 Seattle International Film Festival.
