From May 17th through June 10th, the 44th Annual Seattle International Film Festival will feature over 400 films from over 90 countries around the world. After scouring the schedule for hours on end, I have compiled a list of the 20 films I am most looking forward to watching. The films are listed alphabetically and the post is split into two parts, look for a link to part one at the bottom of this post.
China has a very unique culture which includes the crazy popular internet idol industry. This spotlight on virtual stardom won the documentary Grand Jury Prize at the SXSW Film Festival making it a must see this year at SIFF.
This is one of the only science fiction films at this year's festival and it looks pretty fantastic.
A female directed revenge thriller that takes no prisoners and gives us a new perspective on the genre. I am so looking forward to this film which is being featured as one of this year's midnight movies.
This is Preston DeFrancis' debut feature and it looks like an excellent entry into the world of midnight festival horror screenings. The story kind of reminds me of Game Night but presented in a totally different way.
Director Boots Riley was a member of controversial rap group The Coup so he is no stranger to in your face social commentary making this movie one of the most intriguing options available. SIFF is presenting it during their Centerpiece Gala and it features a high powered cast including Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, and Danny Glover.
A comedy about betting on streakers at sporting events. Yes, I am going to enjoy the heck out of this movie.
This Mexican movie is described as a Guillermo del Toro-esque fairytale so of course I'm going to watch it. Issa Lopez won best director at last year's Fantastic Fest and the movie took home the Jury Prize Audience Award at this year's Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
It's about time we learned stories about Native American women who fought for social justice and equality for the indigenous people of America. This documentary focuses on women's rights activist Madonna Thunder Hawk and her daughter Marcella and their generational journey.
Morgan Neville directed the Oscar winning 20 Feet from Stardom which is one of my all time favorite documentaries so I am expecting this film about the life of Fred Rogers to be just as emotionally powerful and entertaining.
Flash is the official cat of TwoOhSix.com and every year he selects one film that, to him, stands above the rest by presenting a "pawsitive" message in the most "purrfect" way. This year, he has chosen a film that explores the ins and outs of Canada's competitive cat show circuit. Of course.
Directed by Michael McNamara and Aaron Hancox
When Flash picks a movie, you just watch it. No questions asked. Seriously though, this looks like a super fun documentary and features a competitive showdown between two champion felines.
