"Something strange is coming to North Bend." These are the first words you see on the festival's website and, if the lineup of films they are offering are any indication, those words will definitely hold true. The 2018 North Bend Film Festival is a brand new genre festival that will be taking place in the same town where David Lynch filmed Twin Peaks so you know the four day festival will be filled with films that are just a bit off the wall. Below, you will find the movies I have picked as the ones you do not want to miss.
An undercover British journalist infiltrates the online propaganda channels of the so-called Islamic State, only to be sucked in by her recruiter. Timur Bekmambetov's intense thriller, told from the perspective of the computer screen, is the perfect way to open the festival.
Three nerdy girls get transformed into super heroes to fight a tampon monster. Seriously! This short film looks like a blast and plays on opening night as part of the Something Strange shorts program.
I was going to say I picked this movie solely based on the fact that Mia Wasikowska is in it but then I realized that director Nicolas Pesce also made The Eyes of My Mother, a uniquely stylized horror film that played at SIFF a couple years ago.
The premise of this movie reminds me of Cheap Thrills, a thriller that escalates the intensity with increasingly evil tasks which are taken on for the promise of bigger stacks of cash. From the images I've seen, Mitzi Peirone's debut feature film looks like one you won't want to take you eyes off of.
A zombie apocalypse-Christmas-comedy-musical. Yup. I'm in.
