Unfriended: Dark Web

The Movie: Unfriended: Dark Web

The Director: Stephen Susco

The Cast: Betty Gabriel, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Colin Woodell, Chelsea Alden, Andrew Lees, Stephanie Nogueras, Alexa Mansour, Connor Del Rio, Savira Windyani, Bryan Adrian

The Story: A teen comes into possession of a new laptop and soon discovers that the previous owner is not only watching him, but will also do anything to get it back.

The Review:
The very short version of this story is that if you steal a laptop, you and your friends will die in horrible fashion. This movie does take a serious left turn from the first installment of the series by moving it away from the supernatural and into what some might consider to be the even scarier dark web which is a playground for hackers and other people of ill repute.

As you would expect, the group off friends who start of enjoying a regularly scheduled online chat and gaming session, end up being systematically disposed of by bad guys who control pretty much anything electronic. The execution of these events (pun intended) is actually pretty effective and the entire movie carries a fair amount of tension and suspense, just don't expect much in the way of jump scares or you will be disappointed. I'd call this more of a thriller than a horror movie but either way it was a pretty entertaining film and should be fun to watch on a laptop when it comes out on home video formats.
