The Movie: Breaking In
The Director: James McTeigue
The Cast: Gabrielle Union, Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Ajiona Alexus
The Story: Bad guys break into the wrong house.
The Review:
This movie effectively takes the home invasion movie and turns it upside down by reversing the hero and villain roles. Gabrielle Union is fantastic as a mom who will stop at nothing to protect her children from a group of generically evil bad guys who have no idea how bad ass she actually is. The story ,while reasonably entertaining, is pretty generic so the whole thing turns into a showcase for Union who really should be a more prominent figure in Hollywood's roster of leading ladies. This is one of those movies that, for whatever reason, didn't get much of a marketing push so its theatrical run was short lived but it is definitely worth checking out on your preferred home video format.
Side note for my local readers here in Washington state: Billy Burke, who plays the main bad guy, was born in Everett, raised in Bellingham, went to college at WWE, made a couple indie films in Seattle before pursuing a music career in Los Angeles, and had a role in the Twilight movies. So yeah, support local!
