The Review:
The name of this movie pretty much says it all. Director and co-writer Luke Jaden is out to provide you with some good old fashioned haunted house scares by tormenting a family with a chain letter that isn't just another scam. The family is about as dysfunctional as it gets and the first act sets up each of their stories quite nicely including an overzealous, bible thumping dad, the drug addled and drunkenly disgruntled wife, and of course the rebellious teen daughter who does everything she can to piss off her parents.
After all of the establishing and introducing is done, the second act takes a bit of a nose dive into a nothingness filled with not so interesting conversations and extra portions of excessive exposition. Fortunately, things pick right back up again by throwing a bunch of thrills and scares right into your face which made me believe the slow pacing of the middle of the movie was deliberate and intentional as a creative counter balance. The ending punctuates the story nicely with a really great build up as the family realizes the errors of their ways through some truly frightening paranormal experiences.
