The Story: A period zombie movie in which Yi Cheong (Hyun Bin) struggles to save the Joseon from evil that appears only at night.

The Review:
If you've ever wanted to watch a Korean zombie movie period piece then you are in for a treat. Director Kim Sung-hoon and writer Hwang Jo-yoon have put together a movie that combines the ever popular zombie genre with the ever popular Korean period piece where Game of Thrones style drama, intrigue, and violence are interrupted by undead "demons" threatening to wipe out everyone regardless of what their allegiances are.

Once the characters are established, the film makers waste no time getting right into the action and they don't let up all the way to the end. The main character of the story is the classic reluctant hero Lee Chung, played by Hyun Bin, who spends most of his time slicing and hacking his way through hordes of the undead. Having just returned to his homeland, he had no idea he would be faced with a horde of undead while also dealing with a political power struggle and a coup led by the minister of military Kim Ja-joon (Jang Dong-gun) that would see his ruling family fall to pieces.

Rampant is a fun action movie that puts the zombie genre in a new setting by combining it with the sword masters and pageantry of Korean period films. The one flaw of the movie is that it almost has too much going on and I feel like the story would have been better served as a trilogy of films instead of just one.
