The Review:
This latest installment in the Lego movie franchise is packed with non stop action, tons of jokes, gags, and pop culture references. It is genuinely funny, relentlessly entertaining, and just as cheerfully kid friendly as ever although for me it just didn't feel as fresh and exciting as the first movie or the Batman stand alone movie. The major thing I didn't like is how they used the real world aspect, which was the big twist towards the end of the first movie, as a major part of the overall story. I felt like this was more of a distraction and took away from all the fun characters and antics we fell in love with in the previous movies.
Based on the reaction from the audience I saw the movie with, kids will have a great time and adults will be satisfied that their kids had a great time. The movie brings back all the same elements of the first one, it just doesn't feel as special this time around. Here's hoping the creative team can keep the franchise from slipping further in future installments.
