Avengers: Endgame - Spoiler Free First Impression

Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of over ten years worth of movies set within Marvel's ongoing and ever expanding cinematic universe. Pretty much every significant or semi significant character from all those years is involved in some way shape or form in bringing this story to its ultimate conclusion. The words I will have typed below are not my official review of the movie and do not contain any hint of a spoiler so please feel safe to proceed if you haven't watched the movie yet.

First Impression:
The number one thing that impressed me the most about this movie is the writing and how well the story ties in to the rest of the universe and especially the previous Avengers movies. I watched the three Avengers films in the days before seeing Endgame and there are so many threads and details that are addressed and tie in with this movie, it's astounding. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely deserve so much credit for what they have accomplished as the writing team behind the Captain America movies and then both Infinity War and Endgame.

Visually, there is so much going on in the movie, you just have to see it on the biggest screen you can find and from a story perspective, I highly recommend seeing it more than once. For me, all the big moments were even more emotionally impactful the second time around and, as I am writing this, I am preparing to go for a third viewing and can't wait to see everything unfold all over again.

Being in a sold out theater for this movie was a truly amazing time and is exactly what Marvel movies are built for. There are so many moments of applause, cheering, gasping, and crying (yes, I cried) and all of it was made that much more special as a shared experience. It was so much fun to hear people rooting for their favorite characters and enjoying those big moments, you could never replace that level of  collective emotion.

And yes, prepare for the emotions, you will feel all of them. The movie is fun, it's funny, it's sad, it's dramatic, it's exciting, it's intense, it's moving, and I could go on and on. The number one emotion that capped everything off for me was satisfaction. Nothing is left unraveled and there are no loose ends and yet a very clear path is laid out for the future. I do, of course, have a few nits to pick with the movie, but they are very small and didn't take away from the overall experience.

In 2012, Avengers changed what a movie experience could be by bringing together a team of super heroes in a way that we had never seen before. Age of Ultron introduced the emotional weight of what it meant to be responsible for the protection of the planet as Earth's mightiest heroes. Infinity War showed the consequences of arrogance, bad decision making, and lack of communication when faced with ultimate adversity.

And now with Endgame, Marvel has assembled and completed a truly special and historic series of movies that will go down as one of the greatest achievements in cinematic history.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for my full review coming next week.

One final note. There is no bonus scene after the credits.
