The Story: The story of Mary Magdalene.
The Review:
This movie is, of course, a complete work of fiction based on the famous and controversial character from the bible. I mainly wanted to watch this because of the three primary actors, Mara, Phoenix, and Ejiofor. Each of them can be considered to be at the top of their craft so you would think good things would have to come out of them getting together.
Even with all that star power, I have to say this was one or the least interesting movies I have watched in a long time. I honestly can't recall most of the story except for aimless wandering, bland conversations, and religious posturing. As much as the film makers want you to think this is some revelatory story about Mary Magdalene, it ends up just being her following Joaquin Phoenix around for two hours as he pretends to be white Jesus.
