The Movie: Here Comes Hell
The Director: Jack McHenry
The Cast: Jessica Webber, Margaret Clunie, Charlie Robb, Tim Renouf, Tom Bailey
The Story: A 1930's dinner party descends into carnage, gore and demonic possession in Here Comes Hell, a genre-clashing horror comedy.
The Review:
This movie is a complete throwback to films of the 1930's in look, style, wardrobe, dialog, and special effects all with a comedic flair that makes this horror movie quite the entertaining thrill ride. The pacing is upbeat throughout with snappy dialog and a constant push to get to the good stuff you know is on its way. Director Jack McHenry got every bit he could out of what is said to be a rather minuscule budget partly by using old school special effects techniques and also by picking locations that didn't require a ton of money to secure.
The cast clearly had fun with this production and took full advantage of the opportunity to ham it up and really dig into the acting techniques of the time period that the film is set in. The whole thing is drinking, smoking, style and panache up until hell quite literally breaks loose and then it's all about over the top theatrics and a surprisingly gory set of scenarios that all lead to the exciting finish. The twists and turns are all quite entertaining and the timeless quality of the production could help it to become a staple of midnight genre screenings and horror festivals for years to come.
