The Review:
This franchise is the fast food equivalent of movies. You know it's not that good but you still enjoy trying it out every once in a while because it's fun. There is no substance at all but it has all the meaty, greasy goodness you crave every once in a while. These types of meals are of course forgettable and sometimes leave a bad taste in your mouth, but those first couple bites are always way better than they deserve to be.
This movie in particular is that one restaurant you still enjoy going to even though it's been around for years and is showing it's age. The furniture has some wear and tear on it and the building itself has definitely seen better days but you have fond memories so you still stop in once in a while. Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, and Danny Huston have all been acting for many years and while they are showing their age, we still enjoy watching them and they are still more than capable of putting on a good show.
The story actually relies heavily on the effects of aging on these men and how getting older has begun to affect their careers and their lives but at the same time, I mean let's be serious, the story remains secondary to what we really want to see. Lots of guns and explosions and punching and stabbing and drones blowing things up and helicopters and car chases and all the other fun stuff we get to see in these movies.
Angel Has Fallen is exactly the movie you expect it to be. It may not be for you but I enjoyed the heck out of it. If Gerard Butler keeps making these movies, I will be there to watch all of them.
