The Review:
This movie is exactly what you expect it to be and is exactly as advertised in the massive marketing campaign. The Rock and Jason Statham are bigger than life international superstars who are portrayed in this movie as bigger than life international super heroes. While they don't have super powers, they flex every bit of their muscular stature by filling the film with excessively masculine posturing and outlandishly lavish action.
Half the movie is the two characters mostly figuratively but sometime literally comparing their respectively massive manhood while the other half sees them punching, kicking, shooting, and blowing up everything in their path all while Idris Elba gets his terminator on as a nearly unstoppable cyborg type dude that wants to save humanity by destroying most of it. Sort of like Ultron wanted to do in the second Avengers movie. And when I say sort of, I mean exactly like that.
This movie takes the Fast and Furious franchise to yet another insane level and I'm convinced that the whole crew, once united will head off to space for who knows what reason but it will all make sense when we see it. Actually, it won't but we won't care because this franchise is just too much fun to put that much thought into it. Yes, this movie is so off the reals ridiculous but that's what these movies are all about and I'm perfectly okay with all of it. I'm also perfectly okay with Vanessa Kirby being added to the franchise as well as a couple other new faces which I'm sure we'll see more of moving forward.
Hobbs and Shaw is exactly what I expected and I was totally okay with it. It's big, it's bold, it's crazy, it silly, it's outlandish, it's ridiculous, and it's a whole lot of fun. I would have been okay with a much smaller helping of dick jokes and bathroom humor but overall The Rock and Jason Statham are great together and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of their banter in future installments of the franchise
