The Review:
This movie is an animated horror feature that is narrated by William Shatner. I could stop my review there and you'd have enough information to want to see the movie but of course there's more to discuss. The story is sort of a Groundhog Day meets torture porn meets Archer mash up which I was all on board for the moment I saw the poster. Yes, it's a cartoon but it's very much an R-rated movie with lots of blood, violence, gore, more violence, and even some boobs thrown in because why not.
The writing team of Jim Cirile and Tanya C. Klein have put together a story that constantly escalates and ramps up the intensity all the way until the very end. Even within the story, there are moments where someone says, no that wasn't outrageous enough, do it again which makes sense once you see the Groundhog Day influence play out. It's not really a person living the same day over and over but they are forced to relive a certain scenario as part of a crazy gambling scheme. I'm not even going to try and explain that piece of it any more, you just have to see it for yourself.
The animation has that classic 2D look that plays like a comic book come to life which makes the excessive violence even more fun to watch because you're like this is crazy but it's just a cartoon. I especially loved the inventive torture traps that could easily have been used in one of the many Saw movies and a lot of the biggest blood splattering moments come from these being put to good use. Director Jason Axinn really pulled out all the stops to create a movie that is so over the top bat poop crazy and I loved all of it.
