TwoOhSix Picks - 2019 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival

Horror fans! If you're in New York between October 17th and 24th, this is where you want to be. Year four of the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival looks like it is going to be the best one yet and The TwoOhSix has uncovered the scariest, bloodiest, creepiest, and most scream inducing-est movies that you will be able to see. Without further ado, here are my TwoOhSix Picks for this year's festivities.

1BR directed by David Marmor

Moving to a new city by yourself can be a scary proposition especially when evil is lurking around every corner. I'm going to be hugging my pillow during this one!

A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio

A nighttime radio DJ tells tales of horror weaving together a tapestry of terror that brings together a roster of short films as a cohesively consistent collection that raises the bar for the genre's anthology format. I love horror anthologies and this one looks like a fun twist on the concept.

Girl on the Third Floor directed by Travis Stevens

If you're a fan of the WWE, you know the name C.M. Punk. As an actor he is using his given name Don Koch although his raging star power is still evident in this super creepy looking haunted house movie. I can't wait to see what his finishing move will be or if he is forced to tap out from all the ghostly terrors.

In the Quarry directed by Bernardo and Rafael Antonaccio

I'm not exactly sure what this movie is and the trailer makes it look like a gigantic pile of frenetic craziness. The festival's website compare the movie to Polanski's Knife in the Water so yeah, I'm in.

Koko-di Koko-da directed by Johannes Nyholm

I had a chance to see this during the North Bend Film Festival. It's one of those movies with tons of depth and so many layers, I'm still trying to unravel it all. One of the most intriguing movies I have watched all year. (Review)

Porno directed by Keola Racela

If you can watch only one movie during the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, this is the one. No joke, this is it. Clear your calendar and make it happen. You have been warned. (Review)

Sea Fever directed by Neasa Hardiman

I keep hearing great things about this movie and am super excited to finally have a chance to check it out. Irish film maker Neasa Hardiman sets sail on a voyage headed on a slow burn towards disaster.

Spiral directed by Kurtis David Harder

Brooklyn Horror calls this movie a "queer horror game-changer." Looks like a very timely exploration of hatred towards people who are different and hate might just be the scariest thing we will ever encounter.

The list of Brooklyn theaters being used to host festival screenings includes the Nitehawk Cinema, which is where most screenings will take place, as well as the Liu Kumble Theater, Wythe Hotel Cinema, the IFP Made in New York Media Center, and the Cobble Hill Cinema.
