The Review:
If there was an award for most beautiful movie of the year, Greta Gerwig's latest directorial effort would definitely be in the running. You can expect it to rake in lots of nominations and awards for production design and costume design as well as at least one acting nomination thanks to Saoirse Ronan's always impressive work. With a resume that includes films like Ladybird, Brooklyn, and Byzantium, she is easily one of the best actors working today.

I'll be honest, the story didn't completely grab me, especially in the middle portion of the film although it did finish strong and in a way that made it worth the wait. If you are a fan of the book and/or the previous movie adaptations, you should enjoy this version. The people who I have talked to that are familiar with the story gave it very favorable comparisons with the strength of the production being the casting lead by Ronan, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlan, and Florence Pugh who is having quite the year with strong performances in Fighting with My Family and Midsommar.

Those four ladies, playing the March sisters, lead the way with great chemistry between them and play off of each other really well. In supporting roles, Tracy Letts, who I always love, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, and Timothée Chalamet are all fantastic. I mean seriously, that roster of talent is pretty freaking impressive and it's nice to see Gerwig be able to pull actors from her previous work which to me says a lot about her as a director. Ronan, Chalamet, and Letts were all in Ladybird and were equally as impressive there as they are in this movie.

Little Women is a beautifully crafted movie that fans will adore. The look and feel of the movie is filled with so much beauty, color, and texture, it's an absolute delight to look at. Throw in some fantastic performances and this is a movie that most everyone will be able to enjoy.
