Yesterday - Movie Review

The Movie: Yesterday

The Director: Danny Boyle

The Cast: Himesh Patel, Lily James, Sophia Di Martino

The Story: A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate timeline where they never existed.

The Review:
Danny Boyle's resume as a director is kind of across the board with inspirational tales like Slumdog Millionaire standing right next to genre favorites like 28 Days Later so it's hard to pinpoint exactly who he is as a film maker. All I know is that he is really good at what he does and, with this latest effort, he dips back into the feel good story territory and doesn't disappoint. To be honest, the story is just okay and that's also not really the point, this is one of those movies you just sit back, enjoy the music, the performances, and the good times to be had by all.

Speaking of performances, Himesh Patel is a delight to watch in the starring roll and he fits the unintentional hero character perfectly. Throw in the always adorably radiant Lily James and you have an absolute winning combination and it's hard not to want to just give them both big hugs while watching the movie. Outside of that, the story is pretty much what I expected it to be although I was hoping for a little more emotional punch. Still a fun movie to watch.
