The Movie: The Irishman
The Director: Martin Scorsese
The Cast: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci
The Story: A mob hitman recalls his possible involvement with the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.
The Review:
The run time for this movie is three hours and 29 minutes. For my part that was about 90 minutes too long. Oh man this movie just drags on forever telling a story that could have been done so much more efficiently and in a much more interesting way. Sure this movie is packed with heavyweight talent from the director all the way down through the cast but somehow the whole thing just felt stale, uninteresting, and like I'd seen it all before in other, much better movies.
If you have seen any of the Godfather movies, Goodfellas, Casino, and/or Once Upon a Time in America, you have basically seen everything this movie has to offer and so much more. The CGI de-aging techniques really didn't bother me so I don't see that as a negative, it was really well done for the most part and better than some people on the internet had been saying.
The Irishman is a bloated and uninteresting movie that I feel could have been so much better by taking a more efficient approach. It's not a bad movie by any means, it's just not worth the nearly four hour commitment it takes to get through it.
