The Movie: Like a Boss
The Director: Miguel Arteta
The Cast: Rose Byrne, Tiffany Haddish, Salma Hayek
The Story: Two friends with very different ideals start a beauty company together. One is more practical while the other wants to earn her fortune and live a lavish lifestyle.
The Review:
If the "Bestie Comedy" wasn't already an official genre then it is now as Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne explore what it's like to be life long friends and business owners who hilariously take on the biggest challenge of their lives. The story is pretty basic and fairly predictable and it's also a lot of fun which is mainly thanks to Haddish and Byrne, as well as Salma Hayak who goes all in on her character's voluptuous excesses. Seriously, these three ladies make a dull movie way more enjoyable than it probably deserves to be.
Rose Byrne has been in just about every type of movie you can think of over the years from blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and X-Men to genre films like Neighbors and Insidious and I really feel like she has found a home in the world of comedy. She's super likable and totally relatable because of how she just lets loose with the most endearingly awkward moments. For example, when you see her dance, you feel bad for her and you also want to give her the biggest hug and I guess that's also pretty much the entire movie.
