The Review"
Over the course of recent cinematic history, video game adaptations have more often than not been doomed to fail. For whatever reason, studios and filmmakers seem to have a hard time adapting properties from gaming consoles to the big screen, with a few exceptions of course. To my surprise, this movie defied the odds and turned out to be a highly entertaining and fun movie that will appeal to kids of all ages.

Nothing about this movie is groundbreaking or worthy of major awards yet it will provide a couple hours of nostalgia filled entertainment as Sonic races around and Jim Carey gives one of the best mustache twirling villains we have seen in some time. Carey's antics were over the top crazy funny and I think the nature of the character allowed him to push the envelope a bit while not ever taking it too far. James Marsden also impressed me in his role as a small town sheriff who dreams of a bigger purpose, he was very believable in a role that has him interacting with an extra hyper blue hedgehog from another world for most of the movie.

Director Jeff Fowler keeps the pace at a breakneck speed and clocks in with a run time well under two hours which is advantageous for keeping kids attention not bogging the movie down with too much story. This is kind of weird to say, but one of the movie's strengths is its lack of in depth story telling, the creative team just says here's what's going on and now we're going to give you as much action as we can squeeze in before the credits role and that's good enough for me.
