The Review:
This is one of those movies that sort of sneaks up on you with how good it is. The story itself is really what makes this movie so intriguing as there's no real hype of major star power to help build anticipation. What you do get is a beautifully directed movie by Matthew Pope that reminds me of neo-noir films like Winter's Bone with that cold, dark vibe that penetrates every frame of film. The story revolves around Leigh Tiller, played by a more than capable Bethany Anne Lind as she makes some really bad decisions after (maybe) accidentally killing a man in the auto repair garage that she owns.
Lind's performance is powerful stuff and carries the film through a series of events and choices that lead to an inevitable conclusion. She handles every moments of it brilliantly along with supporting roles from Jimmy Gonzales as Tiller's business partner and Will Patton as the town sheriff who also happens to be the Leigh's father. Patton is always good in everything he does and it was nice to see him in a role that allowed the actor to let loose just a little bit over the course of the movie. All of the character work from the cast complements the story perfectly and each of them helps to build to a conclusion that has several twists and turns.
Blood on Her Name is a movie that will stick with you even if it's not the flashiest of films, there's just something about the it that hits home and puts you right in the emotional center of the story. Well done across the board, I am happy to have taken the time to check it out.
