The Review:
So, the movie is called Butt Boy and it's about a guy who can make people disappear with his butt. That title and description comes fully loaded with a very specific set of expectations. What's interesting is how the movie ends up taking a very interesting left turn in both tone and style creating an unexpectedly fun experience. You might think the film makers go all in on the camp and bottom of the barrel humor, and in some ways they do, but they also made a very conscious and effective decision to have the actors play their roles sin a very straight manner right next to all of the absurdity going o around them.
This is not to say that the movie takes itself seriously, the whole thing is indeed absurd, it's just that a lot of the absurdity comes from the fact that the aforementioned style and tone play more like a classic noir film than a grindhouse style comedy. I also really like the heavy dose of detective story tropes, a lot of which are made fun of in the film as well as having a steady stream of wink and a nod type moments. I don't know how much I can effectively describe anything else about the movie without giving away some of the surprises that make the whole thing so much fun to watch.
Butt Boy is everything you think it is and it's also something completely different. What starts in a sort of melodramatic fashion, turns into a wildly absurd bit of horror extravagance.
