The Director: Steve Villeneuve
The Story: A documentary about the fans of the Evil Dead films and explores the classic franchise's undying and ever-growing popularity.
The Review:
If you are a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, you are going to love this groovy documentary which just happens to also be made by fans of the franchise. You can tell lots of love was poured into this documentary which chronicles the lives of some of Evil Dead's biggest supporters and even some of the people who helped to make the movies happen. Of course, this documentary wouldn't be complete without an appearance from Mr. Evil Dead himself Bruce Campbell. The legendary horror icon proves to be a true inspiration to fans and shows a wonderful understanding of what it's like to be a fan.
One thing that I learned right off the bat from this movie is that Evil Dead's biggest fan, officially declared through a competition held a few year's back, lives right here in the state of Washington. This young woman is a true fan of the movie, the franchise, and the genre as a whole and I felt like she was a great representation of what it means to be a fan. Of course, being a fan means something different and specific to each person so the film makers also show us cos-players, movie collectors, and prop hunters.
The diversity of horror fandom is what makes it so much fun and quite frankly makes it the best segment of movie fandom you will find. There is a true passion and an honest dedication to the genre that I don't think you find anywhere else and all of it is on display in this documentary. People help each other, people become life long friends, and there is even an engagement that happens right in the middle of a horror convention. It was great to see such a wonderful group of fans interacting with each other and sharing their love of the Evil Dead movies as well as seeing the creators themselves showing so much enthusiasm and passion for their creations.
