The Review:
Paul W.S. Anderson has made a career out of adapting video game franchises and other various science fiction and fantasy properties and I have enjoyed them most of them. His movies are heavy on big, bold visuals and light on in-depth, nuanced story telling but who cares, they're always fun and entertaining. Except for Pompeii. That movie is about as bad as it gets so we won't reference that one any more. Seriously. Never watch that movie.

Before this movie was announced, I knew nothing of the video game franchise and, to be honest, when the movie was announced, I didn't even know it was a video game adaptation. All I knew was that the movie had Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, and giant monsters. I mean, any one of those three would have me all in but all three together was an absolute slam dunk that I would be first in line as soon as it was available. Well, as we know, the pandemic changed things up as far as how we watch movies but when I finally did get a chance to see it, I was happy to see that it was pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.

Lots of guns, lots of explosions, lots of monsters, lots of monsters exploding, and lots of other monsters doing other monstery things. And Ron Perlman! Like all that other stuff wasn't enough, we also get Ron Perlman. Nothing about this movie is ground breaking or innovative or earth shattering in any way, it's jut a fun movie about people battling monsters and sometimes that's enough. The action is pretty much non stop through the entire movie and Anderson really doesn't waste much time with things like dialog and character development because who needs stuff like that when there are monsters roaming about.

The Verdict:
Monster Hunter is a lot of fun and it's exactly the movie you think it is.
