Pieces of A Woman - Movie Review

The Movie: Pieces of A Woman

The Director: Kornél Mundruczó

The Cast: Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Ellen Burstyn

The Story: A grieving woman embarks on an emotional journey after the loss of her baby.

The Review:
The movie opens with a twenty something minute single take show of Vanessa Kirby's character giving birth and the whole thing is supposed to be super intense, super emotional, and able to draw you into the story. The filmmakers are hoping that's enough to get you and then you'll stay for the rest because there isn't much else going on. This movie did not interest me at all. Not one bit. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't care about what they were going through, and all I could think was "wow, what a bunch of well to do, entitled ass holes."

That opening sequence was erratic and uninteresting and failed at everything it was attempting to do, except for show off how great of an actress Vanessa Kirby has become. This is meant to be her coming out party of sorts as an actress that can carry heavyweight material as well as compete with action starts like The Rock and Tom Cruise. The last few years have been amazing for her career and I have no doubt she will continue down that path to stardom. That being said, her performance gets lost in a story that just doesn't mean anything and again I just didn't care about these people at all. I just wanted them to go back to their fancy mansions and shut the hell up about how hard their lives are.

That's all. That's all I've got.
