The Review:
At first glance, this movie looks like a new take on David Fincher's Se7en which is one of the craziest and most well written crime dramas you will ever come across. I was really hoping for the same type of thrilling twists and turns and, if we're lucky, a similar knock it out of the park finale or even half that and I would at least be satisfied. Nope. None of that. None of the drama, none of the thrills, none of the action, and an ending where I was just like, okay well that's over.
Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors of all time and he has delivered some of the most amazing acting performances ever so it was very disappointing to see him just coast through this movie without hardly any of the energy and presence you would normally get from him. I understand that not every performance can be Oscar worthy but this was like he barely even checked in to say that he was there. Adding to this for me was the fact that he was teamed up with Rami Malek and Jared Leto, two actors who I have never really cared for for whatever reason. I can't really pinpoint what it is, I mean they're both highly respected actors and all that, they've just never clicked for me and they did nothing in this movie to move that needle the other direction.
The Little Things is bland, unimaginative story telling and, as much as I tried to enjoy it, nothing about the movie provided anything to get excited about. I would say that nothing about it is terrible, there's just nothing about it that stands out which is even more disappointing given the potential that it had to be great.
