TwoOhSix Picks - 2021 Slamdance Film Festival

The Slamdance Film Festival always features a fresh and original slate of programming making it the perfect way to kick off the new year. After digging into the roster of available films, I was very excited to once again see a true independent spirit embedded throughout making it no easy task to compile my list of the six films that stood out from the pack as this year's "TwoOhSix Picks."

  • 18th & Grand: The Olympic Auditorium Story
For eighty years, boxing, wrestling, roller derby and punk rock rattled the concrete walls of the Olympic Auditorium, reverberating far beyond its downtown LA location, sending shockwaves across the world.

  • A Tiny Ripple of Hope
A charismatic activist works to build a better Chicago for the teens in his neglected community even if it comes at the cost of his home, his family, and his safety.

  • Anatomy of Wings
Black and white, young and old, a group of women risk their personal identities to build a second family while creating a documentary-film across the inequities of their Baltimore City neighborhoods.

  • Bad Attitude: The Art of Spain Rodriguez
Moving, thought-provoking, both personal and political, Bad Attitude: The Art of Spain Rodriguez explores the controversial art and life of the legendary underground cartoonist through the lens of his wife, Emmy-nominated filmmaker Susan Stern.

  • Bleeding Audio
Bleeding Audio is an intimate portrait detailing The Matches' promising career, defeating break up, and inspiring reunion as they reflect on what success truly means for musicians in today's digital industry.

  • End of the Line: The Women of Standing Rock
Indigenous women unite to stop the oil pipeline that threatens their land, water, and very existence.

About Slamdance:
By filmmakers, for filmmakers. Established in 1995 by a wild bunch of filmmakers who were tired of relying on a large, oblique system to showcase their work, Slamdance has proven, year after year, that when it comes to recognizing talent and launching careers, independent and grassroots communities can do it themselves.

The 2021 Slamdance Film Festival takes place in Park City, Utah from January 12th - 25th. Tickets are available now on the Slamdance website. Stay tuned to TwoOhSix.com for festival coverage including movie reviews and recaps.
