The Fatal Raid - Movie Review

The Movie: The Fatal Raid

The Director: Jacky Lee

The Cast: Patrick Tam, Michael Tong, Jade Leung, Jeana Ho, Min Chen Lin, Hidy Yu, Sin Hang Chiu, Andrew Yuen, Jadie Lin

The Story: Two elite police teams head up a secret operation following a dangerous smuggling ring across the Macau border, but when their presence is discovered, the mission ends in a deadly firefight. Twenty years later, an escort mission brings the survivors back to the scene of the tragedy—and fosters a highly unwelcome reunion.

The Review:
When I first decided to watch this movie I was a bit nervous and, in the famous words of various characters in the Star Wars universe: "I've got a bad feeling about this." I was hopeful it would be the action spectacle it promises to be but I felt like there was a better chance it would be a dud. The movie is definitely more the latter in just about every way. The idea of the movie looks fun but the execution leaves a lot, and I mean a lot, to be desired.

The two timeline storyline is a confusing mess and the choppy editing doesn't help matters in any way. The dialog is so bad and the actors either seemed to be mailing in their performances or whatever good they did have was killed in the editing process. Seriously, there isn't anything I can point to that might redeem this mess of a movie and make it remotely watchable. The bet part is the end looks to set up the possibility of more movies set in the same world. No thanks!

The Fatal Raid is fatally flawed in just about every way. What could have been a strong, female led, action packed crime thriller turns out to be a failed attempt at cheap exploitation cinema.
