The Review:
I thought this was an interesting idea when I first saw the trailer and I was hoping the concept would provide lots of opportunity for some serious scares. I mean, creepy noises coming from dark places is always a good setup or at least it should be. I guess that's not what director Frida Kempff had in mind because what I ended up watching was a slow, dramatic thriller that wasn't really scary at all and fell back on the "is the lead character crazy or not" trope that we've seen so many times in these types of genre films.
Çecilia Milocco, as the lead character Molly, gives a pretty strong performance and makes the movie at least worth watching, I just don't think the story and script she had to work with matches the effort. None of the other characters in the movie really have any meaning or provide any substance and are basically just there to wonder whether Molly is crazy or not. I will say there is a twist at the end that sort of flips the whole story into something entirely different but by the time we get there, it's already too late to be anything that matters.
Knocking goes for a slow, intense experience but it just managed to be slow even with a slim run time. For me this was a missed opportunity to go all in with what could have been a more more shocking thrill ride.
